FEAST DAY OF ST. MARINA Tomorrow (Monday, July 17) is the Feast of the Holy Great Martyr Marina. Great Vespers will be prayed tonight (Sunday) at 6PM. Tomorrow(Monday) Orthros will begin at 8AM (note earlier time, please) with Divine Liturgy commencing at 9AM. Many Years! to our Marina Smitherman named for this Saint.

DO YOU KNOW that for more than two decades the parishioners of St. George have been helping nourish those in need through our local Salvation Army? Thanks to consistent caring and attention to the needs of others in the city, our church has maintained a quiet ministry of providing food for a hot meal at Salvation Army. This is actually part of a larger effort among local churches to provide nourishing meals for those in need. According to a pre-planned calendar from Salvation Army, we usually do this twice yearly. Our part is to provide part of a meal—be it casseroles, rolls, applesauce or a dessert. A modest crew of generous volunteers from the parish makes sure these items are provided when requested. We’d like to thank Susan Brountas and Kathy Fitzpatrick who are presently coordinating the meals effort from St. George.
Recently we realized this on-going work might not be as well known as it once was. Would you like to be involved? If so, the coordinators welcome your interest! Please talk with Susan and/or Kathy and let them know if you’d like to help. You’ll likely be called on to cook or bake something for a Salvation Army hot meal every six months. It might be a casserole or a dessert. Whatever you provide will be a blessing for others.
People come to Salvation Army to be fed for a variety of reasons. In the Bible, Jesus told us the poor would always be with us. And inasmuch as we help them, our ministry is as to Him. So, this is a lovely opportunity to bless others and be blessed in the process. Thank you, St. George faithful!

NEW LITERATURE RACK FOR THE NARTHEX You’ll find it stocked with plenty of literature designed to guide and answer questions about Orthodox Christian Faith and practice. The literature is suitable for everyone—whether you are completely new to the Orthodox Church or whether you’ve been Orthodox for longer than you can remember. Suggested donation per booklet is $1.50 or as marked. Brochures are free. Please leave your donations for literature in the tray at the candle stand. Thank you.

A WAY TO BLESS OTHERS IN OUR CHURCH NEIGHBORHOOD Our friends at United Methodist’s Saving Grace Thrift Shop (near intersection of Union & Sanford Streets), routinely help those with needs who come to the thrift shop. Usually they are people who live in this general area. They can be homeless persons, those mentally/physically challenged, those who’ve lost jobs, those newly released from prison who need to set up a household, etc.
At this time, the thrift shop needs towels to distribute. Wash cloths, hand towels, bath towels—all are desirable. They have asked if our congregation might have towels we could contribute to their shop. Towels do not need to be brand new, but in reasonably good shape and clean, of course. Most people can find towels on a shelf in a closet that get little to no use. If you have towels that you can contribute, please bring them to the church at your next opportunity. We’ll see that they make it to the thrift shop. - Thanks in advance, Presbytera

IS THIS YOUR FIRST VISIT TO ST. GEORGE? If you are visiting our parish this morning, welcome! Orthodox Church tradition encourages Orthodox Christians in good standing with the Church to approach the Holy Chalice for Communion... however, if you are not Orthodox, we ask that you please refrain. All worshipers are welcome to receive antidoron (a piece of blessed bread) immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Please stay for fellowship hour that we might get to know you.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

If this applies to you, please do the following: park in the loading zone in front of the church, and come indoors with your car key and ask in the office for someone to park the car for you and you will be assisted. GREAT VESPERS St. George Church offers Great Vespers at 6PM on any evening before a Divine Liturgy will be served. Each Saturday evening at 6PM, Great Vespers is served in anticipation of Sunday morning’s Divine Liturgy. This will also be true of evenings preceding a major feast. Participation in these services is an opportunity for us to worship corporately and multiply the power of our prayers. If for any reason vespers will not be served, you will receive a message beforehand via the church list-server advising cancellation.

SPECIAL PRAYER SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED Fr. can meet you here at the church and offer particular prayers for you if you are going to be traveling or are preparing to have medical procedures done (hospitalization, etc.) He is available to make hospital visits and will routinely visit those in convalescent care. Sunday of the Holy Fathers

On the Sunday that falls from the 13th to the 19th of the present month, we chant the Service to the Holy and God-bearing Fathers who came together in the Seven Ecumenical Councils, that is: the First Council, of the 318 Fathers who assembled in Nicaea in 325 to condemn Arius, who denied that the Son of God is consubstantial with the Father; the Fathers of the First Council also ordained that the whole Church should celebrate Pascha according to the same reckoning; the Second Council, of the 150 Fathers who assembled in Constantinople in 381 to condemn Macedonius, Patriarch of Constantinople, who denied the Divinity of the Holy Spirit; the Third Council, of the 200 Fathers who assembled in Ephesus in 431, to condemn Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople, who called Christ a mere man and not God incarnate; the Fourth Council, of the 630 who assembled in Chalcedon in 451, to condemn Eutyches, who taught that there was only one nature, the divine, in Christ after the Incarnation, and Dioscorus, Patriarch of Alexandria, who illegally received Eutyches back into communion and deposed Saint Flavian, Patriarch of Constantinople, who had excommunicated Eutyches; the Fifth Council in 553, of the 165 who assembled in Constantinople for the second time to condemn Origen and Theodore of Mopsuestia, the teacher of Nestorius; the Sixth Council in 680, of the 170 who assembled in Constantinople for the third time, to condemn the Monothelite heresy, which taught that there is in Christ but one will, the divine; and the Seventh Council in 787, of the 350 who assembled in Nicaea for the second time to condemn Iconoclasm.

TITUS, my son, the saying is sure. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned.

When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful.
