Stewardship
Stewardship - The Parish Council of the Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church is pleased to announce a few new ways to donate to your church. We have launched a new stewardship service that allows you to give one-time or recurring gifts from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
Our Church responds to the spiritual needs of the Greek Orthodox Christian Faithful through our ministries, providing programs and services to our community. We invite you to prayerfully consider sharing the resources given to you by God by donating your time or talents. Your support helps us further the vital ministry work of the Church.
Here are the ways you can support your Church:
Volunteer: Please consider volunteering for one of the ministries of the Church--nothing is more valuable than your time. Email Father Catalin (frcatalin7@gmail.com) and let him know where you can help.
Mail: You can mail a donation to: Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 South Cashua Drive, Florence, South Carolina 29501
Online (NEW!): You can make a one-time or recurring donation safely online at: https://www.gotflorence.com/donate
Smartphone App: There is also an app you can have on your smartphone that you can use to make donations to the church. You can also download the Tithe.ly App at: https://get.tithe.ly/download-tithely-app
Thank you for your support of your Church!
God Bless,
Father Catalin
Surely it must be a ghost!
But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" (Matthew 14:26)
You may recognize the verse from this Sunday’s Gospel reading. It’s a familiar story: the disciples are in a boat, sailing in the middle of the night; and they’re being rocked by waves and wind.
Suddenly, they see a figure walking on the water. When they first see this impossible sight, the disciples panic.
Surely it must be a ghost!
Yet it’s not. It’s the man Jesus, who walks with physical feet upon material water. It’s the man Jesus, who welcomes Peter out onto the waves, and then grabs him by the hand when Peter begins to sink.
And this man Jesus can work these wonders because He is not merely a man: He is also the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
Our Lord and Savior took on human flesh. He is not just a spirit floating in our midst. He is not just a ghost, a shadowy figure with mystical powers.
Our Lord is a human being. A living, breathing human being.
And, just like every human being, He was born of a human mother: the woman we honored Thursday.
This woman is honored no less by Jesus Himself, who lifts her into a place more honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the Seraphim.
May we have her prayers!
And this past Thursday, on the Feast of the Dormition, we honored the Theotokos and Mother of the Light! Let us continue to honor and magnify her, God’s Mother and Our Mother, in song!
Peace,
Steve
