The Reading is from Luke 24:36-53

At that time, having risen from the dead, Jesus went up and stood among His disciples and said to them, "Peace be with you." But they were startled and frightened, and supposed that they saw a spirit. And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; handle Me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have." And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave Him a piece of broiled fish [and some honeycomb], and He took it and ate before them. Then He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that everything written about Me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled." Then He opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name in all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up His hands, He blessed them. While He blessed them, He parted from them, and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the Temple blessing God.

Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:16-18; 7:1.

Brethren, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"

The Righteous Patriarch Abraham and his nephew Lot

The holy Patriarch Abraham, born a pagan, ten generations after Noah, when the knowledge of God had perished from among men, became the beginning of God's dispensation for the universal renewal and salvation of man. He was called out of his country--the land of the Chaldees, that is, Mesopotamia--to the land of Canaan, and received the promise that through his seed all the nations of the earth should be blessed; through his singular faith in the promises of God, he was justified before the giving of the Law and the coming of Grace; through his willingness to sacrifice Isaac, he portrayed the love wherewith God loved the world in sacrificing His only-begotten Son. The greatness of Abraham, and the trials that he and his righteous nephew Lot underwent, are set forth in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, chapters twelve through twenty-five. Memorial for Fr. Ernest Blougouras, Fr. Athanas (Tom) George and Fr. John Moutafis will be held on Sunday, October 16, Coffee Hour will be offered by the Annunciation Cathedral Parish Council.  Please join us!


NO COFFEE HOUR - LIONS GAME SUNDAYS

There will be NO coffee hour on the following Sundays due to Lions Games:
October 30th; November 6th; December 4th & 11th; and January 1st.  Thank you for your kind understanding and consideration.


LIONS GAMES

On the Sundays that the Lions are playing a 1:00 PM home game, parishioners are kindly asked to leave the parking lot immediately after church. If you leave your car in the lot for any reason, you will be required to pay for parking at the posted rates.   The church leases the parking lot to Park-Rite.  This is our single largest source of income.  On non-game days, you can stay parked in the lot until 2:00 pm.

PIONEER NEWS

Pioneers Meeting, Lunch and Bingo on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Annunciation Cathedral Banquet Hall.  Bingo prizes and lunch provided by the Pioneers! (Please see flyer insert)

Thank you to the Annunciation Pioneers for their generous donation of $400.00 towards the Ukraine Relief Fund and $1,000.00 towards the Annunciation Cathedral Tower Domes.


BIBLE STUDY

Bible study will begin mid-November, right around Christmas fast.  More details and information to follow in future bulletins.


SUNDAY SCHOOL

One of the most important things we can do for our children is ensure that they learn about our Orthodox faith.  Religious education should be an important part of their lives.  Classes for the 2022-2023 Sunday School have begun and are available for students from pre-K (age 4) to 12th grade.  Also, if anyone is interested in becoming a Sunday School teacher, please contact Fr. George.


ANNUNCIATION CATHEDRAL CHOIR

Your choir has begun another year in song and we invite you to join us – young and old are welcome in the choir loft.  We accommodate all levels of musicality, and you do not have to read Greek to sing.  We practice once or twice per month, and sing with our whole hearts.   If you have always wanted to try, come sing with us!  We encourage you to offer your talents to your church.   

“Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head:  they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.  Isaiah 51:11

HOLY RELICS – ‘ΑΓΙΑ ΛΕΙΨΑΝΑ

The Holy relic (‘Αγιo Λείψανο) of St. Andrew the Apostle will be on display in the reliquary of the Annunciation Cathedral of Detroit for embracement and veneration for whomever wishes to do so.

The Holy relics have been safe-guarded in the sanctuary of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral for over one hundred years, and it is now the time for them to be venerated and presented to all the faithful Christians.

Pacific Northwest Archons Host Seattle Luncheon

The Archons of the Pacific Northwest in the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco hosted His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America on his first trip to the area, along with His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco and His Grace Bishop Ioannis of Phocaea (Metropolis Chancellor), at a luncheon on Saturday, September 24, 2022. The hierarchs were visiting to help celebrate the 100th Anniversary of St. Demetrios Church in Seattle, WA.
