Eikona We had an incredible weekend of music with the ladies of Eikona starting with the Paraklesis service on Friday night, the concert on Saturday night and the Matins and Divine Liturgy on Sunday. Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to prepare and go through this week-end, especially to the choir and to Don Argyrople for a job exceptionally well done!
Sunday School Artists Reception and Presvytera Appreciation Day took place Sunday, September 23rd. In addition to our past Presbyteras Sophia and Claire, we had with us our Parishioner Inkeri, and the two Presbyteras Stacey and Marika of the Eikona trio. Fr Costin consecrated the Ikon which the Sunday School presented as a 100th Anniversary gift to our Church. We were able to see the creative ceramic tiles which the children created to hang with the Icon. Thank you, Sunday School Director Jill Argyrople, Sunday School Teachers Joanne Hight and Melinda Patrick and our own beloved Presbytera Irina for all you did to plan and execute the Sunday School project and to invite and welcome the Presbyteras!
Our 100th year celebrations continue during October with our Sunday School students preparing and offering Prosforo, assisting with Parish Council duties, reading the Epistle, preparing St Basil’s kitchen meals, and offering a Fellowship Hour as we recognize out Sunday School Students and all they give to their Church in many ways. Please take a moment to thank a Sunday School student for his or her contribution.

NEEDED: Backpacks for Foster Kids- Now that our children have all gone back to school, filled their backpacks with school supplies and had the backpacks blessed in our church, it is time to think about the kids out there who are in the foster care system and may not have a backpack or school supplies – we can all help. Children enter the foster care system at all times of the year, so there is always a need for school backpacks.
We are appealing to every family in the parish to participate in this backpack project. One completed backpack per family. Involve the children in making the decisions about the contents for the backpack. We will ask you to add an item or two each month from now to the end of January. Don’t rush out and do this all at once. This way your family works together for an extended period of time building the habit of helping others in need. Remember to offer a family prayer for the child who will receive the backpack.
Saint Basil’s Ministries has set up a backpack station in the Narthex right next to the on-going food pantry collection station. Here is how families can help to sponsor a backpack for one child:
This will be an ongoing family ministry project from now until the end of January. Each month we will publish a short “backpack TO DO list.
SEPTEMBER BACKPACK CHALLENGE
