Worship in Green Phase

We are still able to have in-person Church.

We are happy to continue to have our doors open to all of our beloved parishioners and we invite you to join us, safely, in-person to worship! Details below.

Coming to Church is as easy as 1-2-3:

1) Wear a mask

2) Sanitize your hands

3) Check-in & Sit in between the blue w/ your family

Our Sunday attendance has ranged from 41-130 without the need for overflow seating in the hall.  In the situation that we can't maintain the crowd with proper distancing in the main church, the hall will continue to be available for overflow, following the same safety precautions downstairs, to worship via the live stream, and have an opportunity to receive Holy Communion.  Please join us in person! We will be continuing to live-stream our regularly scheduled services via our public facebook page at www.facebook.com/HTAmbridge at the times listed below.

Our high touch surfaces--seating pews, pangari, check-in table, bathrooms, and entrance door handles are sanitized between each service.

Every Sunday - 9am Orthros, 10am Divine Liturgy

March 6th - Saturday of the Souls - 9am Orthros & Liturgy w/ Memorial Koliva

WEBPAGE UPDATE:

The Archdiocese has been updating older parish websites and we received our update on Wednesday the 17th.  We are very thankful to the Archdiocese Department of Internet Ministries for their hard work on updating our website while preserving our content.  Check it out at www.htgoc.org

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS THROUGH GMAIL:

The Archdiocese has also been moving parish emails away from imail and we now have our email at HolyTrinityAmb@gmail.com.  We ask that you save this email address in your contacts so that you recognize our parish easily and not be sent into spam folders.

BLESSING EVERY HOUSE IN 2021: Due to COVID, Fr. Anastasios' current plan for house blessings is as follows, instead of signing up, Father plans to bless every home of our parishioners in the local area.  He will be praying a short service and blessing the OUTSIDE of each home (unless asked specifically not to come).  He intends to leave one bottle of holy water at each residence with instructions for sprinkling the inside.  Father will keep all exposure to a short limit to protect everyone and masks with social distancing will be required.  These will not be appointment-based, but rather he will be doing specific areas on specific days and will bless the outside of your home even if you are away.  Thank you for your understanding.

*Please let us know if you have moved or no longer reside at the address we mail things to.

As of this weekend Fr. Anastasios has completed all the addresses in Aliquippa, Ambridge, Baden, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Conway, Fair Oaks, Freedom, Clinton, Coraopolis, Cranberry, Mars, McCandless, Monaca, Moon, New Brighton, Sewickley, and Wexford.  If you live in these areas and didn't receive a holy water bottle at your home, please contact the church office.  If you live in an apartment, please contact Fr. Anastasios.  Due to all the snow it has been more difficult to make these trips.

FEBRUARY FOCUS ON THE LITURGY - Due to interest from our GOYAns and conducted for the benefit of all: starting next Sunday and through the first Sunday in March during the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Anastasios will be highlighting and explaining different parts of our Liturgy.  Each lesson will take place in the midst of the liturgy during the part that he will be explaining for the day, so please make sure you are in attendance or on the live-stream before the beginning of Liturgy (10am)!

PHILOPTOCHOS - ANDERSON EASTER CANDY SALE: Order forms are available now for this annual fundraiser that supports both your sweet tooth and our Ladies Philoptochos.  Orders are due by March 28th with payment and pick up will be in time for Western Easter on April 4th.  Please see Mary Menis for details.

Hope & Joy Fidget Blanket Project: Over the next month or so, the HOPE & JOY group will be taking a collection of excess crafting items that you might have (fabric remnants, unused lace doilies, spools of thread, discarded yarn, bracelts, neclaces, etc) and after the collection, the group will be making sensory and tactile “Fidget Blankets” for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia or mental health struggles. Collection will start next week in a box at church. One person’s trash is the Fidget Project’s treasure. More details to come on the assembly date. Contact the advisors for more info.

2021 Stewardship Drive: Join us in supporting our Church.  Stewardship Cards are available on the back of the two most recent newsletters and on the Pangari at church.  Stewardship is our greatest fundraiser and also lets us know that you stand with your church.  We thank you for your dedication over the years and especially during 2020 and look forward to many years of serving you and your family through your generous donations.

CHECK-IN VOLUNTEERSIn the current policies of the metropolis we are required to have a check-in person or team for every service.  We are looking for additional volunteers who are willing to come a little early to check people in and, if able, to help sanitize after the services.  Please contact Fr. Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal 1st Mode. Psalm 11.7,1.
You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 6:12-20.

Brethren, "all things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food" -- and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh." But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God.

Plagal 1st Mode.

Gospel Reading

Sunday of the Prodigal Son
The Reading is from Luke 15:11-32

The Lord said this parable: "There was a man who had two sons; and the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.' And he divided his living between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took his journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in loose living. And when he had spent everything, a great famine arose in that country, and he began to be in want. So he went and joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his belly with the pods that the swine ate; and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired servants.' And he arose and came to his father. But while he was yet at a distance, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet; and bring the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and make merry; for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to make merry. Now his elder son was in the field; and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what this meant. And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has received him safe and sound.' But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, 'Lo, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command; yet you never gave me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you killed for him the fatted calf!' And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal 1st Mode

Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate * with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born * for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. * For in His goodness He was pleased * to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, * and to raise up those who had died, * by His glorious Resurrection.

Apolytikion for the Church in the 4th Mode

Blessed are You, O Christ our God; Who has shone forth the fishermen to be all wise, by sending upon them the Holy Spirit and through them, You gathered the whole world in Your net, O lover of Mankind, glory to You.

Seasonal Kontakion in the 3rd Mode

I revolted senselessly * out of Your fatherly glory; * I have squandered sinfully * all of the riches You gave me.* Hence to You, using the Prodigal's words, I cry out,* I have sinned before You, merciful loving Father.* O receive me in repentance, * I pray, and treat me * as one of Your hired hands.

Sunday of the Prodigal Son

Through the parable of today's Gospel, our Saviour has set forth three things for us: the condition of the sinner, the rule of repentance, and the greatness of God's compassion. The divine Fathers have put this reading the week after the parable of the Publican and Pharisee so that, seeing in the person of the Prodigal Son our own wretched condition -- inasmuch as we are sunken in sin, far from God and His Mysteries -- we might at last come to our senses and make haste to return to Him by repentance during these holy days of the Fast.

Furthermore, those who have wrought many great iniquities, and have persisted in them for a long time, oftentimes fall into despair, thinking that there can no longer be any forgiveness for them; and so being without hope, they fall every day into the same and even worse iniquities. Therefore, the divine Fathers, that they might root out the passion of despair from the hearts of such people, and rouse them to the deeds of virtue, have set the present parable at the forecourts of the Fast, to show them the surpassing goodness of God's compassion, and to teach them that there is no sin -- no matter how great it may be -- that can overcome at any time His love for man.

Wisdom of the Fathers

But if he had despaired of his life, and, ... had remained in the foreign land, he would not have obtained what he did obtain, but would have been consumed with hunger, and so have undergone the most pitiable death: ...
St. John Chrysostom
AN EXHORTATION TO THEODORE AFTER HIS FALL, 4th Century

... but since he repented, and did not despair, he was restored, even after such great corruption, to the same splendour as before, and was arrayed in the most beautiful robe, and enjoyed greater honours than his brother who had not fallen.
