Worship

Worship in Green Phase

We are still able to have in-person Church.

We are happy to continue to have our doors open to all of our beloved parishioners and we invite you to join us, safely, in-person to worship! Details below.

Coming to Church is as easy as 1-2-3:

1) Wear a mask

2) Sanitize your hands

3) Check-in & Sit in between the blue w/ your family

Our Sunday attendance has ranged from 41-130 without the need for overflow seating in the hall.  In the situation that we can't maintain the crowd with proper distancing in the main church, the hall will continue to be available for overflow, following the same safety precautions downstairs, to worship via the live stream, and have an opportunity to receive Holy Communion.  Please join us in person! We will be continuing to live-stream our regularly scheduled services via our public facebook page at www.facebook.com/HTAmbridge at the times listed below.

Our high touch surfaces--seating pews, pangari, check-in table, bathrooms, and entrance door handles are sanitized between each service.

NEW EMAIL ADDRESS THROUGH GMAIL:

The Archdiocese has also been moving parish emails away from imail and we now have our email at HolyTrinityAmb@gmail.com.  We ask that you save this email address in your contacts so that you recognize our parish easily and not be sent into spam folders.

BLESSING EVERY HOUSE IN 2021: Due to COVID, Fr. Anastasios' current plan for house blessings is as follows, instead of signing up, Father plans to bless every home of our parishioners in the local area.  He will be praying a short service and blessing the OUTSIDE of each home (unless asked specifically not to come).  He intends to leave one bottle of holy water at each residence with instructions for sprinkling the inside.  Father will keep all exposure to a short limit to protect everyone and masks with social distancing will be required.  These will not be appointment-based, but rather he will be doing specific areas on specific days and will bless the outside of your home even if you are away.  Thank you for your understanding.

*Please let us know if you have moved or no longer reside at the address we mail things to.

As of this weekend Fr. Anastasios has completed all the addresses in Aliquippa, Ambridge, Baden, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Big Beaver, Conway, Ellwood City, Fair Oaks, Freedom, Clinton, Coraopolis, Cranberry, Mars, McCandless, Monaca, Moon, New Brighton, Sewickley, and Wexford.  If you live in these areas and didn't receive a holy water bottle at your home, please contact the church office.  If you live in an apartment, please contact Fr. Anastasios.

LAST FEBRUARY FOCUS ON THE LITURGY - Due to interest from our GOYAns and conducted for the benefit of all: starting next Sunday and through the first Sunday in March during the Divine Liturgy, Fr. Anastasios will be highlighting and explaining different parts of our Liturgy.  Each lesson will take place in the midst of the liturgy during the part that he will be explaining for the day, so please make sure you are in attendance or on the live-stream before the beginning of Liturgy (10am)!

HOPE & JOY Fidget Blanket Project: Over the next month or so, the HOPE & JOY group will be taking a collection of excess crafting items that you might have (fabric remnants, unused lace doilies, spools of thread, discarded yarn, bracelets, necklaces, etc) and after the collection, the group will be making sensory and tactile “Fidget Blankets” for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia or mental health struggles. The collection will start next week in a box at church. One person’s trash is the Fidget Project’s treasure. More details to come on the assembly date. Contact the advisors for more info.

Parish Oratorical Festival - We have at least one student interested in participating in the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival.  Students must be between 7th and 12th grades to participate and the topics can be found here.  Please let Fr. Anastasios or Jackie Bennis know by March 8th.

LENT IS COMING: Great Lent starts 1 weeks from Monday (March 15th), but our fasting starts before that.  At this point we only have through this weekend to enjoy or freeze our fresh meats.  As of Monday, March 8th we will begin Cheesefare week, when we remove meat from our diets, but are still permitted to enjoy dairy, eggs, and fish.  Once that week is over on Cheesefare/Forgiveness Sunday, we begin the process of Strict Fasting.  But Lent is more about what we eat, start thinking about how you can best apply yourselves to the 3 pillars of Great Lent - Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.

GOYA Zoom Call - March 17th, 8:15pm:  After attending our first Presanctified Liturgy of this Lenten season, we ask for all GOYAns to jump on a St. Patrick's Day Themed zoom call.  More details to come.

PHILOPTOCHOS - ANDERSON EASTER CANDY SALE: Order forms are available now for this annual fundraiser that supports both your sweet tooth and our Ladies Philoptochos.  Orders are due by March 28th with payment and pick up will be in time for Western Easter on April 4th.  Please see Mary Menis for details.

Scholarship Opportunities - The Georgia Antinopoulos scholarship and Nicholas T. Pappas scholarship applications have been sent to all our High School Seniors.

2021 Stewardship Drive: Join us in supporting our Church.  Stewardship Cards are available on the back of the two most recent newsletters and on the Pangari at church.  Stewardship is our greatest fundraiser and also lets us know that you stand with your church.  We thank you for your dedication over the years and especially during 2020 and look forward to many years of serving you and your family through your generous donations.

CHECK-IN VOLUNTEERSIn the current policies of the metropolis we are required to have a check-in person or team for every service.  We are looking for additional volunteers who are willing to come a little early to check people in and, if able, to help sanitize after the services.  Please contact Fr. Anastasios if you are interested in helping a necessary function during these times.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. 4th Mode. Psalm 146.5;134.3.
Great is our Lord, and great is his power.
Verse: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2.

Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

4th Mode.

Gospel Reading

Judgment Sunday (Meatfare Sunday)
The Reading is from Matthew 25:31-46

The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Judgment Sunday (Meatfare Sunday)

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal 2nd Mode

When the angelic powers appeared at Your grave, the soldiers guarding it feared and became as dead. And standing by the sepulcher was Mary who was seeking Your immaculate body. You devastated Hades, not afflicted by it. You went to meet the virgin, and granted eternal life. You resurrected from the dead. O Lord, glory to You.

Seasonal Kontakion in the 1st Mode

When You come down to the earth, O God, in Your glory, all things will cower tremulous, and a river of fire will draw before Your Judgment Seat; the books shall be opened up, and public knowledge will things hidden be. Rescue me, then, I pray, from unquenchable fire, and count me worthy to stand at Your right hand, O You, the most righteous Judge.

Judgment Sunday (Meatfare Sunday)

The foregoing two parables -- especially that of the Prodigal Son -- have presented to us God's extreme goodness and love for man. But lest certain persons, putting their confidence in this alone, live carelessly, squandering upon sin the time given them to work out their salvation, and death suddenly snatch them away, the most divine Fathers have appointed this day's feast commemorating Christ's impartial Second Coming, through which we bring to mind that God is not only the Friend of man, but also the most righteous Judge, Who recompenses to each according to his deeds.

It is the aim of the holy Fathers, through bringing to mind that fearful day, to rouse us from the slumber of carelessness unto the work of virtue, and to move us to love and compassion for our brethren. Besides this, even as on the coming Sunday of Cheese-fare we commemorate Adam's exile from the Paradise of delight -- which exile is the beginning of life as we know it now -- it is clear that today's is reckoned the last of all feasts, because on the last day of judgment, truly, everything of this world will come to an end.

All foods, except meat and meat products, are allowed during the week that follows this Sunday.

Wisdom of the Fathers

He indicates the dispositions of each, calling the one kids, the other sheep, that He might indicate the unfruitfulness of the one, for no fruit will come from kids; and the great profit from the other, for indeed from sheep great is the profit, as well from the milk, as from the wool, and from the young, of all which things the kid is destitute.
St. John Chrysostom
Homily on Matt. XXV, 4th Century

For when one has pity on the poor, he lends to God; and he who gives to the least gives to God--sacrifices spiritually to God an odour of a sweet smell.
St. Cyprian of Carthage
The Lord's Prayer, 33. B#41, p.102, 3rd century
