Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal 1st Tone

Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. For in His goodness He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, and to raise up those who had died, by His glorious Resurrection.

Apolytikion for Sun. of St. Mary of Egypt in the Plagal 4th Tone

In you, O Mother, is preserved undistorted what was made in the image of God; for taking up the cross, you followed Christ and by example taught, that we should overlook the flesh, since it passes away, and instead look after the soul, since it is immortal. And therefore, O devout Mary, your spirit rejoices with the angels.

Apolytikion for the Church in the 1st Tone

8th Tone

Blessed are You, O Christ our God; You made wise men of poor fishermen by sending down upon them Your Holy Spirit, and through them You caught the whole world, O Lover of mankind, glory to You.

Seasonal Kontakion in the 2nd Tone

O Protection of Christians that never falls, intercession with the Creator that never fails, we sinners beg you, do not ignore the voices of our prayers. O good Lady, we implore you, quickly come unto our aid, when we cry out to you with faith. Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos who protect now and ever those who honor you.

Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt

The memory of this Saint is celebrated on April 1, where her life is recorded. Since the end of the holy Forty Days is drawing nigh, it has been appointed for this day also, so that if we think it hard to practice a little abstinence forty days, we might be roused by the heroism of her who fasted in the wilderness forty-seven years; and also that the great loving-kindness of God, and His readiness to receive the repentant, might be demonstrated in very deed.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal 1st Tone. Psalm 11.7,1.
You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 9:11-14.

BRETHREN, when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Gospel Reading

Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt
The Reading is from Mark 10:32-45

At that time, Jesus took his twelve disciples, and he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise." And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant of James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Parish News

A Word from Fr. John:

More from St. John of the Ladder (Step 11 of The Ladder of Divine Ascent):

“Talkativeness [i.e., non-disciplined, unmeasured excessive talkativeness – Fr. John] is a sign of ignorance, a door to slander, an inducement to jesting, a servant of falsehood, the ruin of compunction, a creator and summoner of despondency, a precursor of sleep, the dissipation of recollection, the abolition of watchfulness, the cooling of ardor, the darkening of prayer.

Intelligent silence is the mother of prayer....

He who has become aware of his sins has controlled his tongue, but a talkative person has not yet come to know himself as he should.”

Special Prayer Requests:  We pray for mercy, life, peace, and healing for all parishioners, especially Mike Chelikas, Nicola Lykam, Irene Hastalis, Jim Manos, Chresanthe Lemieux, Jane Anderson, Betty & Fred Day, Despina Xynidis, Jimmy Diamondidis, the God son of Jeff Kauttu and Melissa Kauttu Strange who has suffered a concussion, George P. Nichols, and for their families; for continued growth of the parish family, and for those the Lord receives, serves, and sends through her lifesaving ministry. We pray for our two missionary families:  Dn. Stephanos, Dka. Alexandria & Moses Ritsi serving Albania; and Michael, Lisa & Liam Colburn serving translators worldwide.

We especially offer thanks to the Lord for the visitation, care, guidance, and blessings of His Grace Sevastianios, Bishop of Zela, and pray for his “many years.”   Pray also for our iconographer, Aristidis and his wife, Joanna.  Good journey and strength to all the faithful, visitors, college students, and inquirers worshiping today.

The Visitation* of His Grace Bishop Sevastianos of Zelon: Thank you to our clergy, parish council, church members, and the full-time priest committee for their labor, preparation, and coordination involved in hosting this event.

*E-Bulletin Readers, please see the attached schedule to take the opportunity to meet, greet, and be edified through the events that begin on Thursday evening.  All are welcome!

In Times of Need:When challenging times come upon us and especially in times of illness, hospitalization, emergency, or loneliness, ask for intercession and visitation. Please notify Father John through the church office, or email prayer requests and updates to holy3goc@gmail.com.

2019 Greek Landing Day Announcement & Sunday Collection: We join parishes throughout the Archdiocese in passing a tray today in support of the annual Greek Landing Day celebration at St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine. This support is needed in addition to our efforts annually offered in collaboration with our closest sister parishes, St. John the Divine in Jacksonville and St. Demetrios in Daytona (this year’s hosting parish). The faithful of Holy Trinity parish are encouraged to continue benefitting from services and special events edifying to the soul and proclaiming Orthodoxy to hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Old City, and to integrally take part in opportunities of engagement planned Executive Director Polexeni “Polly” Hiller and the St. Photios Foundation Board of Trustees. Talk with Margo about becoming a Friend of St. Photios Shrine!

Dyeing Pascha Eggs at Church—new this year for our Church Family! Please join us to boil and dye eggs at 12 noon on Thursday April 25, prior to the Mystical Supper Vesperal Liturgy at 1:00 pm.   Red dye from Greece will be provided.  We will need 12 dozen UNBOILED eggs.  If you wish to offer eggs, please bring them to church on any day prior to the Wednesday night Holy Unction Service.  Leave them in a refrigerator with a note "Eggs for Pascha".  On Great and Holy Friday morning, after the Royal Hours, we will wrap the eggs and tie them with red ribbon.   If you have  questions contact Polly at 904.829.5060 or phillier@stphotios.com, or Carmela at 904.471.2490 or ctardo@bellsouth.net.

Sunday School News:  April 21 (Palm Sunday) the students will remain in church for the blessing of the palms. One of the things parents constantly ask is how to keep their children involved in Church during Lent and interested in attending the extra services. As parents we struggle to find balance between every day activities (both theirs and ours) and our own and our children’s spiritual lives. This blog has 40 ideas for parents to keep their kids interested in Lent:  http://www.orthodoxmom.com/2019/03/13/40-activities-for-great-lent/ that are ways to help our kids stay connected.

Philoptochos Chapter Meeting:

There will be no meeting in April. Our next meeting and board elections will be held on May 5th.

Iconography Update:  Our iconographer Aristidis Kovaci has begun work on the Pantocrator and Prophets in his studio in Orange Park.  He will assemble the icons, paint the background, and write the inscriptions here in our church.  Installation of the icons will take about 10-14 days, and during that time, because of the scaffolding, we will have services in the Fellowship Hall.  We look forward watching the iconography installation after Pascha, in May, and its completion before Pentecost.

Greek Summer Night:  SAVE THE DATE.  Greek Summer Night will be Saturday, June 1, 2019, featuring DJ Arista from Tarpon Springs.  Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship and family.  Opa!

Stewardship – A Pattern of Caring:Giving is a habit that begins with a commitment. Becoming an active steward requires a conscious decision to actively support the needs of the church. The commitment card we offer to Holy Trinity parish each year encourages us to give regularly. There are extra cards in church, or you can call the church office.
