The Church will be repairing a test sample of pews this week to see how well they can be repaired. We thank you for your patience while we restore the Church.
EMAIL PHISHING SCAMS
It has come to the attention of Archdiocese that at least three parishes in the Archdiocese have been targeted by email phishing scams. The scammers have emailed and sent texts to parishioners, pretending to be the parish priest.
A sample of one scam email is copied below:
"I wanted you to help me get a Itunes gift card worth $300 at $100 or $50 denominations for a friend of mine going through cancer in the hospital. He needs those cards to download his favourite musics and videos to boost his confidence on his next phase of surgery and fight over cancer which he’s going to undergo today but i can't do this now. Let me know if you'll be able to do this for me."
These types of scams have happened in the past and will continue to happen. Communication and education is our best defense. Parishioners should never respond to any such requests for money or gift cards via email.
Read and share our educational blog post on how to spot phishing emails: https://blogs.goarch.org/blog/-/blogs/test-your-phishing-skills-can-you-tell-which-emails-are-real-and-which-ones-are-phishing-
Encourage parishioners to report such activity to the FBI by filing a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://ic3.gov.
Thank you for your prompt attention. Safety is our collective concern.
