The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10.

Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, 'Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.' His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.' And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.' There is an old saying: 'Excesses meet.' Too much fasting and too much eating come to the same end. Keeping too long a vigil brings the same disastrous cost as ... sluggishness... Too much self-denial brings weakness and induces the same condition as carelessness. Often I have seen men who would not be snared by gluttony fall, nevertheless, through immoderate fasting and tumble in weakness into the very urge which they had overcome. Unmeasured vigils and foolish denial of rest overcame those whom sleep could not overcome. Therefore, 'fortified to right and to left in the armor of justice,' as the apostle says (2 Cor. 6:7), life must be lived with due measure and, with discernment for a guide, the road must be traveled between the two kinds of excess so that in the end we may not allow ourselves to be diverted from the pathway of restraint which has been laid down for us nor fall through dangerous carelessness into the urgings of gluttony and self-indulgence.

The Holy Prophet Zacharias (Zachariah)

The Prophet Zacharias was the son of Barachias, and a contemporary of the Prophet Aggeus (Dec. 16). In the days of the Babylonian captivity, he prophesied, as it says, in the book of Ezra, "to the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem" (Ezra 5: 1); he aided Zerubbabel in the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. In the book of Ezra he is called "Zacharias the son of Addo (or Iddo)" but in his own prophetic book he is called more fully "Zacharias, the son of Barachias, the son of Addo the Prophet" (Zach. 1:1). When the captives returned from Babylon, he came to dwell in Jerusalem in his old age. His book of prophecy is divided into fourteen chapters and has the eleventh place among the books of the minor Prophets; his name means "Yah is renowned." Sozomen reports that under the Emperor Honorius, Zacharias' holy relics were found in Eleutheropolis of Palestine. The Prophet appeared in a dream to a certain Calemerus, telling him where he would find his tomb. His body was found to be incorrupt (Eccl. Hist., Book IX, 17).

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

Please remember to respect our Covid-19 Safety guidelines here at Kimisis. If you are not feeling well or have any symptoms that are associated with Covid-19, please stay home and seek medical atention. More importantly, notify Fr. Jason by calling the Church office.

Our goal at Kimisis is to provide a safe and healthy worship experience for our parish family as we implement the current safety guidelines from our civil and ecclesiastical authorities.

We continue to clean and disinfect the church between each service, require masks, hand washing/sanitizing, social distancing, and a limited capacity of 50%.

Please be aware that we will be temporarily suspending the following activities until further notice:

• Fellowship/coffee hour

• Acolytes/altar boys under 18 years of age

Guidelines for Attending Divine Worship

MASKS ARE REQUIRED

Everyone is required to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth from the time they exit their vehicle. Exceptions are permitted for those with valid medical reasons and children less than 2 years of age.

UPON ARRIVAL

Social distancing begins when you enter the Church. Please do not congregate, and socialize in the narthex. Light your candle, pray, and be seated. Please venerate Icons by bowing and doing the sign of the cross. No touching or kissing.

FOLLOW THE SIGNS

Please follow signs to posted entry points and maintain distancing via the ground markers. These have been prepared in advance to provide safe social distancing and need to be respected for everyone’s well-being.

SEATING

Seating has been designed to adhere to social distancing requirements. Only members of the same family may sit together without distancing between them. Please remain seated throughout the entire service, unless you must excuse yourself for a valid reason.

HOLY COMMUNION AND DISMISSAL

Holy Communion will be offered at the usual time in the usual manner. As Orthodox Christians, we believe that Holy Communion is the medicine of immortality. For any reason, if you would like to receive Holy Communion privately, please inform Fr. Jason.

Remove your mask below your chin before approaching the Chalice.

Receive the Body and Blood in a natural manner from the spoon. Do not simply leave your mouth open or do anything else to attempt to "avoid the spoon." This can cause the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to spill.

Please be patient with your brothers and Sisters in Christ. Your parish council is doing their best to guide everyone through this difficult time.

Everyone at Kimisis is essential. This means that we must show love and respect one another by exercising reasonable caution. The most important thing that we can do is to love God together by praying with, and for one another!

Our goal is to help our young people experience their faith in a way that will help form them as Orthodox Christians. Through ministries such as Sunday School and GOYA, our aim is to help guide them as they grow with one another in a community of faith as they embrace the Orthodox way of life.

GOYA– The mission of GOYA (Greek Orthodox Youth of America) is to strengthen the relationship of young Orthodox Christians with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Philoptochos

The benevolent works of Philoptochos are a continuation of Christ’s ministry on earth. We have an opportunity, through our participation in the ministries and programs of Philoptochos, to return our time, talents, and resources back to God.

Another purpose of Philoptochos is to help the Church with its many ministries. Philoptochos is an organization of women who enjoy the fellowship and spiritual enrichment of working together as Orthodox Christians.

Our chapter meets monthly in our church hall. Fundraisers, activities, and service projects are planned for our monthly meetings. Our chapter also recognizes that evening meetings are not always the best time for all members. Special gatherings may also be scheduled at certain times, and will be announced in advance.

FOOD DRIVE: The local community has seen an increased need in requests for food and goods for families with young children at this time. Our Ladies Philoptochos will be running an ongoingFood Drive to support the local Dutchess County area food banksthroughout the fall/winter months. There is a marked bin in thenarthex that will be open for donations and delivered regularly. Child friendly food items have been specifically requested.

Please consider bringing your non-perishables each Sunday to fill the bin for those in need in our community.

House Blessings

Please be aware that due to Covid-19, Fr. Jason will be blessing homes in a somewhat different manner to ensure the health and safety of everyone at Kimisis.

Please prepare the usual items in your home (A bowl of water, a towel, icon, candle or lamp, etc.)

Fr. Jason will start and finish the service at the entryway of your home.

Please remember that he will not be able to stay for lunch, coffee, or other refreshments.

He will leave you with Holy Water from Kimisis.
