St. Niketas was born in 1716 from rich parents. His father was the governor of the island, however, he fell into trouble with the Turks, and to escape tortures, he and his family converted to Islam and moved to Rhodes. There, his youngest son, Mehmet, learned that at one time he had been a Christian named Niketas. Immediately after, at 14 years of age, Niketas went to Nea Moni of Chios where he confessed his situation to the Abbot. The Abbot sent him first to the former Bishop of Thebes Makarios, who gave him Holy Chrism and valuable guidance. Niketas learned of the way of martyrdom and received advice from the well-known ascetic Anthimos Agiopateriti, and with the prayers and blessing of the other fathers, he left for Chios.
When he reached Chios, he was compelled by the Turks to pay the head tax, which he was unable to do. Therefore the Turkish employee led him towards the prison at Vounaki. On the road he met some priest who greeted Niketas as Mehmet. When the Turk heard this and learned from someone what had happened he led him to the Aga. There Niketas confessed his faith with boldness and withstood the pressures and threats to return to their religion. Because however he did not give way, they delivered him to terrible tortures for ten days. In the end, he was beheaded on June 21st 1732 at 17 years of age, gaining the crown of martyrdom and heavenly glory.
This Martyr, who was born to a pagan father and a Christian mother, was from Cilicia, confessed the Christian Faith before the Proconsul Marcian, and was perfected in martyrdom at the age of eighteen, when he was put into a sack with sand and venomous serpents and cast into the sea. Saint John Chrysostom has a homily in his honour.
Terence, also known as Tertius or Terentios, was the second bishop in succession after Saint Sosipater (Nov. 10; Apr. 29) in Iconium, where he converted many pagans to Christ through his words and deeds done in the power of the Holy Spirit, also baptizing those converted by Saint Sosipater.
He was also the scribe of the Apostle Paul's letter to the Romans, as we read in Romans 16:22: "I, Tertius, the one writing this letter, greet you in the Lord." This letter was written in Corinth during the winter of 57 or 58 A.D., and is the longest of his letters. Some believe Tertius copied the original letter of Paul, or even translated it into Latin from Greek or Greek to Latin, but he was probably just a scribe who dictated the words of the Apostle Paul. Based on this, many assume Paul's "thorn in the flesh" was something that prevented him from writing, perhaps blindness, but this is just speculation.
Terence was also a Wonderworker, a Martyr and one of the Seventy Apostles. According to the Synaxarion of Constantinople, he died after being pricked with thorns, perhaps by being dragged over thorns till his flesh was torn off, or beaten with a thorny branch till he bled to death. Some believe Tertius and Silas are the same person, both of whom are said to have accompanied the Apostle Paul; Silas in Hebrew signifies the same thing as Tertius in Latin. He is also commemorated on October 30th and November 10th with other Apostles of the Seventy.
Second Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from Mark 16:1-8
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back, for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.
Second Orthros Gospel
Prokeimenon. First Mode. Psalm 32.22,1.
Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.
Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
First Mode.
2nd Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 4:18-23
At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.
2nd Sunday of Matthew

Dear Parish Members: By the grace of God, we have been able to welcome you for worship and Divine Liturgy.
As we have been sharing, the full restoration of our parish life is a process with noticeable changes and limitations. At this time, we are still limited to being able to accommodate 40 parishioners during Orthros and Divine Liturgy Services at this time. We will adjust this as regulations changes.
For the foreseeable future - all Parishioners must sign up for Sunday services in advance. For those not able to attend in person, services will continue to be live-streamed on our Facebook page. Details on how to reserve a seat for services are found below. Before signing up, please consider the following:

A few important notes:
Be mindful this is new and not ideal for all of us. Your patience, flexibility and compassion are appreciated. We will work to make improvements as we learn through this.
Please look for more detailed information in the coming days on specific expectations and guidelines for attending services.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION and let us all thank God for every blessing. I look forward to seeing you in church again soon. Fr Stephen
Online Giving Portal for Stewardship & Donation Offerings
We are happy to announce that people have been using our new program which provides you the option to send your stewardship and free-will offerings online via credit card, debit card, or electronic withdrawal from a bank account. The Online Giving Portal can be accessed through our Church Website by clicking the new “Donations & Stewardship” tab. This functionality is secured for your protection and gives you the opportunity to make a one-time contribution or set up a recurring offering.
Our traditional ways of accepting offerings remain the same – the portal has been added for those who prefer the convenience of online giving. It also helps to mitigate the risks associated with handling cash. Our office remains open during weekdays and at services a collection tray will be placed in the Narthex (as a health and safety precaution it will not be passed).
As you consider your offerings, please keep in mind that in accordance with church regulations and bylaws, donations that are specified for a particular use can only be used for that purpose. In uncertain times like these, general donations give the church more flexibility to adapt to unforeseen challenges.
Also be reminded it is still important to fill out a Stewardship Pledge card each year - this helps us to plan and budget effectively. If you have not completed your 2020 Stewardship Pledge card, please contact the church office for assistance with this.
It is our intention to expand this new capability as we learn more from our online giving trends in the coming months. Your suggestions are welcome.
Our prayers remain with you, your families, our community and our world for good health, strength, peace, and resilience now and in the days ahead!
God Bless,
The SAGOC Parish Council http://saintanthonyreno.org/

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do, says the Lord Almighty, I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe, says the Lord Almighty. Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight, says the Lord Almighty.” –Malachi 3:9-12
