Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Fourth Mode

When the women Disciples of the Lord had learned from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection and had rejected the ancestral decision, they cried aloud to the Apostles triumphantly: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has risen, granting His great mercy to the world.

When Thou wast baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest; for the voice of the Father bare witness to Thee, calling Thee His beloved Son. And the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the certainty of the word. O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and hast enlightened the world, glory be to Thee.

Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 4:7-13.

BRETHREN, grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it is said, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men." (in saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

The Reading is from Matthew 4:12-17

At that time, when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

PARISH VASILOPITA /STEWARDSHIP SUNDAY: TODAY, Sunday, January 9, 2022, we will have the traditional Vasilopita cutting for our parish. This day has been also designated as the Stewardship Sunday. You can submit your Commitment Card any other time, but we encourage you to submit your card today, indicating the time, talent and treasure that you will offer as a member of the Church, the Body of Christ on earth. Parishioners can also complete the 2022 Stewardship Card online at https://form.jotform.com/220062911610138

JOIN US FOR LUNCH! After the Divine Liturgy service today, we will offer a complimentary lunch in the Hellenic Cultural Center. Please bring your family and join us!

SUNDAY SCHOOL BACK IN SESSION: Sunday School classes will resume TODAY, Sunday January 9^th 2022. Young people should come to church at regular time with their families, and will go to their classes following communion. They will be brought back to the church to be blessed by the Holy Waters, and receive a piece of Vasilopita.

PHILOPTOCHOS MEETING: There will a meeting of the St. Helen Philoptochos on Monday, January 10^th at 2:00 pm in the Library/Multi-purpose room. We have a full agenda as we plan for the Greek Fest and other upcoming activities, so please make every effort to attend.

TLC NEW YEAR’S LUNCHEON: Our TLC Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, January 11^th at 12:00 noon. Bring in the New Year with excellent food and even better conversation! All ages are encouraged to attend; please RSVP to Caryl Lowes at 734.751.3683 or cvlowes@gmail.com no later than Sunday, January 9^th.

GOYA MEETING: There will be a GOYA meeting after church next Sunday, January 16^th in the Board Room. All young people, ages 12 – 18 are invited to join us, and help plan the activities for this year.

MEN’S CLUB MEETING: The Men’s Club will meet next Sunday, January 16^th in the Hall following the service. Please plan to attend.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: GREEK FEST 2022! Mark your calendars now for Saturday February 19^th! Saints Constantine and Helen will be hosting our 2^nd annual Greek Fest, a one day, indoor Greek Festival! We are planning a day of delicious food, Live Greek music and dancing, and much more!

HOME BLESSINGS: If you wish to have your home blessed for the New Year, please contact the church office to be added to Father Teodor’s schedule. Father will wear a mask in the home for those who prefer. Due to safety precautions, Father will keep the visit short - offer the blessing and leave (approx.. 15 minutes) and would prefer not to be served any food and drink.

SPANAKOPITAS AVAILABLE: There are still frozen, unbaked spanakopitas on sale by our Philoptochos. Price is $30 for ½ sheet pan. If you would like to purchase, contact the church office or Carol Bozadzis.

PARKING COURTESY: During these months of cold, snow and ice we all want to park as close to the church entrance as possible. Please be courteous and do not park in handicapped parking spaces unless you have a need. Please also be patient with those dropping people off at the entrance, and respectful of fire lanes and entrances to the church and the Hellenic Cultural Center.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: Koliva that has been prepared for memorial services can now be distributed to parishioners at the end of service. Requested Coffee Hour sponsorship donation is $150, and the HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for your family. Paximadia and koulourakia may also be distributed at the coffee hour. Please call the church office to schedule memorials and coffee hour sponsorships in a timely manner so we can include the information in the bulletin. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer.

REMEMBER THE CHURCH IN YOUR WILL: You’ve supported the church your whole life, remembering us in your estate plan will help the church when you’re gone. Consult your estate planner or contact the Church office for information.
