WE ENCOURAGE THE PARISH FAMILY TO COME TO CHURCH If your heart longs to be in Church, to worship God and to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist, by all means come to church. There is room to social distance. Those who have been attending recently have found being together and receiving Christ to be supremely comforting.
We understand why some people have felt the need to remain absent but we hope those who have absented themselves will soon venture out and return. The Eucharist is central to our lives and on Sunday mornings it is offered here at St. George. That is the one thing—the most important thing--that is unavailable through an on-line church service.
All are welcome at this point and we hope to see more parishioners each Sunday. God bless!

COFFEE HOUR fellowship is suspended yet for a while. We hope it won’t be much longer. We all miss each other and pray that things will be back to normal before long—God grant it!

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION If you are unable to come to church on Sunday morning to receive Holy Communion and still desire to be Communed during this unprecedented time, please contact Fr. Leo to make arrangements to be Communed (207-385-3000).

MEMORY ETERNAL! Gina Kolkas’ Theia Souzanna reposed on June 20. God comfort the family and place Souzanna’s soul among the righteous in Holy Paradise. Also, Lee’s Theia (Aunt) Aliki reposed last week. God rest the soul of His servant Aliki and comfort all the members of the Speronis family. It is never a small thing to lose a loved one. Memory Eternal!

IS THIS YOUR FIRST VISIT TO ST. GEORGE? If you are visiting our parish this morning, welcome! Orthodox Church tradition encourages Orthodox Christians in good standing with the Church to approach the Holy Chalice for Communion... however, if you are not Orthodox, we ask that you please refrain. All worshipers are welcome to receive antidoron (a piece of blessed bread) immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Please stay for fellowship hour that we might get to know you.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

VALET PARKING Some parishioners have difficulty walking distances and find it hard to park near enough to the church on Sunday mornings.  If this applies to you, please do the following: park in the loading zone in front of the church, and come indoors with your car key and ask in the office for someone to park the car for you and you will be assisted.  We are here to help one another.  Please ask for help if needed.  Thank you.

NAME DAYS If you would like to participate in a Divine Liturgy on your Name Day, please let Fr. Leo know to arrange this beforehand.

SPECIAL PRAYER SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED Fr. can meet you here at the church and offer particular prayers for you if you are going to be traveling or are preparing to have medical procedures done (hospitalization, etc.) He is available to make hospital visits and will routinely visit those in convalescent care. Please arrange with him according to need. Thank you.

Athanasius of Mount Athos

Saint Athanasius had Trebizond for his homeland. He first entered the monastic life on the mountain called Kymaeos or Kyminas, which is in Mysia of Bithynia, then he went to Mount Athos and founded a large monastery, which is known as the Great Lavra. He became so renowned for his virtue that from Rome, Calabria, Georgia, and elsewhere, rulers, men of wealth and nobility, abbots, and even bishops came to him and were subject to him. When the time for his departure was at hand, God revealed to him how it would take place, so that he was able to instruct his spiritual children not to be troubled when it should come to pass. A new church was being built for the sake of the many who came to him, and only the dome had not been finished. Together with six of the brethren, the Saint went to the top of the church to help the workmen. The dome collapsed, and they fell. Five were killed at once, and the Saint died three hours later. His holy body remained incorrupt and he worked many miracles after his death. He reposed about the end of the tenth century.

Uncovering of the Holy Relics of Our Righteous Father Sergius of Radonezh

Our righteous Father Sergius was born in Rostov, north of Moscow, about the year 1314. Named Bartholomew in Baptism, he was brought up in Radonezh, and at the death of his parents he withdrew to the wilderness to become a monk. It is notable that without having been trained in a monastery, he was of such a spiritual stature as to be able to take up the perilous eremitical life from the beginning, without falling into delusion or despondency. When he had endured with courage the deprivations of the solitary life, other monks began to come to him, for whom he was made abbot against his will. On the counsel of Philotheus, Patriarch of Constantinople, he organized his monks according to the cenobitic life, appointing duties to each. While Anthony and Theodosius of Kiev, and the other righteous Fathers before Sergius, had established their monasteries near to cities, Sergius was the leader and light of those who went far into the wilderness, and after his example the untrodden forests of northern Russia were settled with monks. When Grand Duke Demetrius Donskoy was about to go to battle against the invading Tartars, he first sought the blessing of Saint Sergius, through whose prayers he was triumphant. Saint Sergius was adorned with the highest virtues of Christ-like humility and burning love for God and neighbour, and received the gift of working wonders, of casting out demons, and of discretion for leading souls to salvation. When he served the Divine Liturgy, an Angel served with him visibly; he was also vouchsafed the visitation of the most holy Theotokos with the Apostles Peter and John. He was gathered to his Fathers on September 25, 1392. At the recovery of his holy relics on July 5, 1422, his body and garments were found fragrant and incorrupt. His life was written by the monks of Epiphanius, who knew him.

And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. For I am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes, and to another, 'Come,' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard him, he marveled, and said to those who followed him, "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth." As we have reached Mid-Pentecost and continue in the Paschal celebration, I pray that you and your families are well and healthy! As you know, Massachusetts Governor Baker announced this morning that Churches are permitted to reopen in the Commonwealth at a 40% capacity rate, as part of the Phase-One Reopening plan.

This is the 34th year that we gather at a Metropolis Awards Dinner to take pride in our Parishes and to express our gratitude to all those brethren - priests and laymen who (as we pray during the Divine Liturgy) "with one voice and one heart glorify and praise the most honorable and majestic name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit." We come to thank those who labor harmoniously to manifest God's name - to witness our faith in our communities and in the world in which we live.

This year we did not gather all together, we did not hug and share stories and pictures in person.  But we did do the wonderful job of collectively offering over 5,000 meals to those in need.  Sometimes it takes very little, to make a huge impact. Thank you to all who worked so hard for making a lonely Sunday evening become a memorable event that we will remember for years to come.

We certainly wish we could have our traditional camp experience this summer! Unfortunately, our reality is that the Covid-19 pandemic has prohibited us from having camp as we know it. During these uncertain times, it is important for our youth to find a grounding and experience a sense of normalcy with things and individuals that are familiar to them.

Between​​ June 23 - 25 2020, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate was convened for its regular meeting of the current month at the Orthodox Center of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy, Geneva. On the first day, the chairmen of the synodal committees were engaged in their cooperative work. Many of the Hierarchs of the Throne in Europe were present as well.
