Prokeimenon. Plagal Fourth Tone. Psalm 75.11,1.
Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 4:1-7.
Brethren, I, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.
Plagal Fourth Tone.
9th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 12:16-21
The Lord said this parable: "The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, 'Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." As he said these things, he cried out: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
9th Sunday of Luke

ICONOGRAPHY PROJECT UPDATE
Iconography Work is Underway and on Schedule
In the past three weeks, tremendous progress has been made on our Iconography Project. The Pantokratera in St. Efstratios Chapel has been completed and is truly a work of art. Striking, vibrant colors enrich the Chapel beyond what was anticipated. The iconographers, who donated the Chapel work, also included significant work to rehabilitate the Platytera and Prophets icons that were brought from our former home in Asbury Park.
Iconographer George Giariskanis and his team have now moved into the main Church. The scaffolding has been installed and the Arch over the Soleas is nearly complete. Work on the Dome, Pendentives/Evangelists, Crucifixion and Resurrection will begin in the coming days. Given the progress, we are anticipating celebrating Christmas in our Church, which will be visually and spiritually enriched with the history of our faith.
On November 17th, we will be unveiling the completed Chapel as part of our Iconography Fundraising Reception. There will be tours of the Chapel, discussions with the iconographers, and demonstrations of icon painting techniques. A raffle is currently underway and will be drawn with a grand prize of a hand painted, personalized icon created by George Giariskanis. Please join your fellow parishioners at this exciting and informative event. Details are included in the Bulletin insert. Please see Pandora Jacoubs, chair of the event, any Parish Council member or contact the church office.
Our church has been blessed to have a number of major icons gifted by some very generous individuals and families. However, the Iconography Project is a community project. Each and every one of us should be invested in the project, not just for ourselves, but for our children, their children and the next 90 years of generations to come. No donation is too small and there are many ways many ways to be financially involved
-Specific icon naming opportunities still exist; please see the enclosed insert or contact Anne Papageorge or John Michals to explore these opportunities.
-Our Gold Leaf initiative presents an excellent way to be involved in the general campaign. The initiative allows each of us to purchase one or more sheets of gold leaf to memorialize and/or commemorate friends and loved ones. Each sheet will be utilized throughout the installation process.
-General contributions to the Iconography Fund have always been possible and have been made by people in and outside our parish, including non-Orthodox individuals who recognize the spiritual importance of iconography. You can also contribute towards our St. George Community icon which are the Prophets in the dome of the church.
-And finally, there are groups of individuals who have gotten together to contribute towards specific icons – i.e. St. George and St. Mary of Egypt. Please contact the church office for information regarding group icons.
We thank each and every one of you that have donated thus far in our project!
