Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal 4th Tone

From on high did You descend, O merciful Lord, for us did You endure three days in the tomb that we may be released from passions in this world, You who are our resurrection and our life. Glory unto You, O Lord.

Apolytikion for Apostle James, Son of Alphaeus in the 3rd Tone

O Holy Apostle James, intercede with the merciful God that He grant unto our souls forgiveness of offences.

Apolytikion for the Church (Pentecost) in the Plagal 4th Tone

O blessed are You, O Christ our God, who by sending down the Holy Spirit upon them made the fishermen wise and through them illumined the world, and to You the universe was ever drawn. All glory to You, O Lord.

Seasonal Kontakion in the 2nd Tone

A protection of Christians unshameable, intercessor to our Holy Maker, unwavering, reject not the prayerful cries of those who are in sin; instead, come to us, for you are good; your loving help bring unto us, who are crying in faith to you: Hasten to intercede and speed now to supplicate as a protection for all time, Theotokos, for those who honor you.

Saints and Feasts

Nainwidow
October 09

3rd Sunday of Luke

Jamesalphaeus
October 09

James the Apostle, son of Alphaeus

The holy Apostle James was one of the Twelve, and preached Christ to many nations, and finally suffered death by crucifixion.

Allsaint
October 09

Andronicus & his wife Athanasia of Egypt

Saints Andronicus and Athanasia were from Antioch, and finished their lives in asceticism about the year 500.

Allsaint
October 10

Eulampios & Eulampia the Martyrs

The Martyrs Eulampius and Eulampia were from Nicomedia, and contested for Christ during the reign of Maximian, in the year 296.

Allsaint
October 11

Theophanes the Confessor, Bishop of Nicaea

Saint Theophanes, the brother of Saint Theodore the Branded, was a Palestinian by race. Both were monks at the Monastery of Saint Sabbas. They were called "the Branded" because Theophilus, the last of the Iconoclast emperors, had twelve iambic verses branded by hot irons on their foreheads and then sent them into exile, where Theodore died in the year 838. After the death of Theophilus in 842, Theophanes was elected Bishop of Nicaea. Both brothers composed many canons and hymns, thereby adorning the services of the Church.

Philipap
October 11

Philip the Apostle of the 70, one of the 7 Deacons

Saint Philip, who had four daughters that prophesied, was from Caesarea of Palestine. He preached throughout Samaria; it was he also who met the eunuch of Candace, the Queen of the Ethiopians, as the eunuch was reading the Prophet Esaias, and he instructed and baptized him (Acts 8:26-39). He reposed in Tralles of Asia Minor while preaching the Gospel.

Symeonnewspious
October 12

Symeon the New Theologian

Saint Symeon became a monk of the Studite Monastery as a young man, under the guidance of the elder Symeon the Pious. Afterwards he struggled at the Monastery of Saint Mamas in Constantinople, of which he became abbot. After enduring many trials and afflictions in his life of piety, he reposed in 1022. Marvelling at the heights of prayer and holiness to which he attained, and the loftiness of the teachings of his life and writings, the church calls him "the New Theologian." Only to two others, John the Evangelist and Gregory, Patriarch of Constantinople, has the church given the name "Theologian." Saint Symeon reposed on March 12, but since this always falls in the Great Fast, his feast is kept today.

Allsaint
October 14

Martyrs Nazarius, Gervasius, Protasius, & Celsus

The holy Martyrs all contested for piety's sake in Milan; after the passage of much time their holy relics were discovered and given honourable burial by Saint Ambrose.

Allsaint
October 15

Loukianos the Martyr of Antioch

This Saint was from Samosata, the son of pious parents. He established a catechetical school in Antioch, and taught the correct doctrines of the Faith and made clear the parts of the divine Scriptures that were difficult to understand. He edited the Old Testament translation from the Hebrew tongue, and published it in an excellent edition, free from every heretical corruption and interpolation. He travelled to Nicomedia to strengthen the faithful there in their contests for Christ, and was accused before Maximinus, with whom he conversed openly. When he had made a defence of the Christian Faith, he was condemned to imprisonment where, in 311, he died of hunger and thirst.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Plagal 4th Tone.

Prokeimenon. Plagal 4th Tone. Psalm 75.11,1.
Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:16-18; 7:1.

Brethren, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

Gospel Reading

3rd Sunday of Luke

3rd Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 7:11-16

At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"

 Let's Be Cool in 2023!

Thanks to the great generosity of a Parish Family Member, we have the opportunity to make a considerable dent in our bank loan as well as to collect some money to put in air conditioning and start the next phase of our church building renovation. Our generous donor has challenged us; the donation will match what we collect up to $30,000! But we need to do it by December 1. Please get your donations in to the church office or to a Council Member as soon as possible. A thermometer chart in the church hall will be keeping track of our donations.

Please Remember the Poor

The special needs for September are: tooth paste and body wash.

On-Line Giving

Your consistent offering of your Stewardship each month will be an enormous help to get us through this summer slump. The easiest and most consistent way to do this is by having your Stewardship given automatically each month. Please go to our website (www.holytrinitynh.org); in the upper right hand corner (of each page!) you will find the link to make your monthly contribution. You can also use this link for other contributions to the parish, such as candles and trays, especially if you prefer not to handle cash. Thank you for your generosity and making sure we are able to serve you throughout the whole year to the glory of God!
