While everyone is welcome to worship with us, Holy Communion is reserved for those who have been Baptized and/or Confirmed in the Eastern Orthodox Faith and have prepared through prayer, fasting and recent confession.
All Guest and Newcomers are welcome to come forward at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy to receive the Antidoron, which is bread that has been blessed.
Bringing our stewardship offerings to the house of God is part of our worship of God. Our stewardship also supports our efforts to proclaim the fullness of the Gospel of Christ in Fort Worth, Texas through our ministries and outreach. Checks should be made out to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, designated in the memo for Stewardship (use your stewardship envelope), and placed in the basket. Offerings for the poor and those in need (alms) should be designated in the memo for Altar Fund. (Altar Fund is the clergy discretionary fund to help those in need.)

The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

Εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος· καὶ οὐδεὶς ἀναβέβηκεν εἰς τὸν οὐρανὸν εἰ μὴ ὁ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καταβάς, ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ὁ ὤν ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ. καὶ καθὼς Μωϋσῆς ὕψωσε τὸν ὄφιν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, οὕτως ὑψωθῆναι δεῖ τὸν υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, ἵνα πᾶς ὁ πιστεύων εἰς αὐτὸν μὴ ἀπόληται ἀλλ' ἔχῃ ζωὴν αἰώνιον. This saint lived in the fifth century. Out of remorse for the adultery that she committed with another man, she fled from her husband's house, renamed herself Theodore, clothed herself as a man, and pretending to be a eunuch, entered a monastery of men. Her identity as a woman was discovered only after her death.
Saint Cornelius was a Roman by race, a pagan by religion, a centurion in rank, an inhabitant of Caesarea of Palestine, a man pious and God-fearing who gave many alms to the people and prayed continually unto God. In accordance with an angelic vision granted to him, he sent to Joppa that they might bring the Apostle Peter. Saint Peter catechized him in the Faith of Christ and baptized all his household (Acts, ch.10). This became the beginning and the first fruits of the calling of the nations. It is said that, after this, he became a bishop, as some say, of Caesarea; but others say of Scepsis, which is not far from Troas; and that he died as a martyr.
Saint Helen, the mother of Saint Constantine the Great, when she was already advanced in years, undertook, in her great piety, the hardships of a journey to Jerusalem in search of the cross, about the year 325. A temple to Aphrodite had been raised up by the Emperor Hadrian upon Golgotha, to defile and cover with oblivion the place where the saving Passion had been suffered. The venerable Helen had the statue of Aphrodite destroyed, and the earth removed, revealing the Tomb of our Lord, and three crosses. Of these, it was believed that one must be that of our Lord, the other two of the thieves crucified with Him; but Saint Helen was at a loss which one might be the Wood of our salvation. At the inspiration of Saint Macarius, Archbishop of Jerusalem, a lady of Jerusalem, who was already at the point of death from a certain disease, was brought to touch the crosses, and as soon as she came near to the Cross of our Lord, she was made perfectly whole. Consequently, the precious Cross was lifted on high by Archbishop Macarius of Jerusalem; as he stood on the ambo, and when the people beheld it, they cried out, "Lord have mercy." It should be noted that after its discovery, a portion of the venerable Cross was taken to Constantinople as a blessing. The rest was left in Jerusalem in the magnificent church built by Saint Helen, until the year 614. At that time, the Persians plundered Palestine and took the Cross to their own country (see Jan. 22, Saint Anastasius the Persian). Late, in the year 628, Emperor Heraclius set out on a military campaign, retrieved the Cross, and after bringing it to Constantinople, himself escorted it back to Jerusalem, where he restored it to its place.
Rest from labour. A Fast is observed today, whatever day of the week it may be.
This Saint was of high birth among the Goths beyond the Danube River. He was taken by Athanaric, pagan ruler of the Goths, and after being tortured, was burned to death for his confession of Christ. According to some, this took place during the reign of Saint Constantine the Great; according to others, under the Emperor Gratian.
Saint Euphemia was from Chalcedon and lived in virginity. According to some, she suffered martyrdom during the reign of Diocletian, in 303; according to others, in 307. Her sacred relics are preserved in the Patriarchate in Constantinople.
These Saints were from Italy and contested for the Faith about the year 126, during the reign of the Emperor Hadrian. Faith was twelve years old, Hope, ten, and Love, nine; each was tormented and then beheaded, from the eldest to the youngest. Their mother Sophia mourned at their grave for three days, where she also fell asleep in peace; because of her courageous endurance in the face of her daughters' sufferings, she is also counted a martyr. The name Sophia means "wisdom" in Greek; as for her daughters' names, Faith, Hope, and Love (Charity), they are Pistis, Elpis, and Agape in Greek, and Vera, Nadezhda, and Lyubov in Russian.

This past July I attended the National Philoptochos Conveention in conjunction with Clergy/Laity in NYC. This was a memorable conference as we celebrated 90 years of Philoptochos, 90 years of wonderful philanthropic work. We are an organization of giving and serving, and that serving needs to continue, hopefully for another 90 years.
One of the main goals at the convention was to provide chapters with innovative ways to increase their membership, specifically getting our younger parishioners involved. A presentation was done by Sara Sladek, called “A Path for Membership Growth”. Sara presented the chapters with many ideas to assist in bringing in our next generation of Philoptochos. The challenge now is to implement those ideas within our chapters. Father Nick has always stated that to be a member of Philoptochos, you don't need to be a certain age, you only need a servant's heart.
That being said our first meeting of the Ecclesiastical year is scheduled for Sunday, September 11, after coffee hour in the parish council room. I am excited to be presenting a report on the convention and sharing some ideas to assist our chapter in growing. And we will have a fun door prize! Hope to see you all there.

In the Gospel of Matthew, the Disciples offered Jesus 5 ordinary Barley Loaves and 2 fish to feed over 5,000 people. Jesus received the loaves and fish, gave thanks to God the Father, blessed, and broke, and gave it back to His disciples. The disciples then, were able to distribute the bread to the feed masses. From 5 barley loaves and 2 fish, Jesus fed over 5,000 people, and still had enough to fill 12 baskets with leftovers.
Consider now, what Jesus can do when we, as his disciples in our time and in our age, commit to offer Him our ordinary gifts! This is what we do when we make a Stewardship Pledge of our Time, Talent and Treasure. We commit to be disciples of the Lord.
I challenge all of us to change the way we think about Stewardship and our life in the Church. It is short sighted and maybe hubris to think we “support” our church through our contributions. But rather think of how the Church is our Spiritual Home. The Church is where we are fed spiritually through the beautiful Divine services. We are continually called to the Church, to approach with the fear of God, faith and love to receive the precious and living giving Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Church is where we bring our babies for their churching and baptisms. The Church is where we go to be joined in marriage and where we offer our sorrows and brokenness to be reconciled to our Lord through confession. The Church is who comes when we are sick and in the hospital, and it is the Church who lays us to our final rest and continues to pray for us when we are gone.
It is the Church that supports us in our daily lives, to mature in faith and guide us along our spiritual journey to the Kingdom. So, when we commit to being disciples of Jesus Christ, by making a pledge of our Stewardship, we avail ourselves to receive all these blessings mentioned and so much more. We are joined to the Church to participate in all these blessings that is in the feeding the multitudes of people.
Stewardship Sunday is September 25, 2022; join me and our parish council as we commit to being disciple of Jesus Christ, and stewards of His Church. Make your pledge that you will be a part of the blessings that the Church is to the multitudes of people.

Importance of Stewardship
According to scripture, God created Earth for mankind and we are now stewards of His creation. This means it is our responsibility to look after and take care of this world. We should accept this responsibility and appreciate God's gift of creation for being our home. Our stewardship of creation involves the caretaking of the environment and animals as well as our families and communities. Being a good steward in this world is one way of expressing our love for God and our gratitude to Him.
Near the end of September Parish Council and all of our members will be invited to make a commitment to serving and supporting St. Demetrios and our Ministries by submitting you 2023 Stewardship Pledge

The Falling Asleep of St. John the Evangelist and Theologian
Submit the names of loved ones to be commemorated during the service of proskomidia (the preparation of the Bread and the Wine). Proskomidia is the service of preparation of the Bread and Wine for Holy Communion. The Faithful will submit the Orthodox Names of the living and those in repose, for health and forgiveness of sins, and for repose and resurrection. Names submitted on Sunday will be commemorated in the following Divine Liturgy.
