If you attended liturgy last Sunday, we kindly ask that you wait until Friday to reserve again, in order to allow an opportunity for other parishioners to attend a Sunday service.

Philoptochos Annual Coat Drive for Market Street Mission
We are asking if you have a gently used winter coat to donate that you bring it to the church by Monday, October 26 so we can donate in time for the coat drive. The Market Street Mission will hold their Annual Coat Drive on 1st Saturday in November 10am -1pm at the Morristown Green, in Morristown NJ. The mission wants only winter coats and apparel (hats & scarves) Please not windbreakers or rain coats (they will not keep our homeless warm)

Attending services at Saint Andrew
• If you cannot attend please cancel your reservation by using your Eventbrite confirmation or calling the church office and leaving a message
• Parishioners must sanitize their hands upon entering the Church.
• Parishioners must wear protective masks throughout the Services.
• Parishioners must adhere to the social distancing guidelines of keeping a six foot distance from other parishioners at all times in the pews and throughout the Church. The only exception being for families that have quarantined together, as they will be able to sit together in a designated section of the Church.
• Parishioners are not to wander in the Church, in the Parish facilities, or outside on the parish grounds.
• Small children shall not be allowed to roam the aisles.
• Parishioners must leave the Church premises, including the parking lot and exterior grounds, upon conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, all the while maintaining social distancing standards.
OPENING THE CHURCH
At this phase, our Church occupancy is limited during the service and is on a first come, first serve basis and we will adhere to the protocols outlined in our web site. In order to attend a service you MUST pre-register using the link which will become available a few days prior to the service or by calling the church during office hours (If NO Answer: please leave a message and we will return your call). You will then get a confirmation that you may attend the service. Please bring that with you when you come to church. If you are not able to attend, we invite you to participate in the celebration of the Divine Services through live streaming services that are available.

We know we can't physically be at church, but if you're following the live video stream of the services and would like to continue to light a candle as you "enter" the church or would like to "drop some money in the basket" please consider a donation by lighting a "virtual candle".
Just go to the church's Facebook page and select "posts". You can light your virtual candle via the Facebook donate button which you should be able to see.

Esteemed Members of the Metropolitan Council, Esteemed Members of the Parish Councils, Philoptochos Sisterhood, Faculty and Students of the Catechetical and Greek Afternoon Schools, Directors and Participants of all Youth Organizations, and all devout Orthodox Christians of the Communities of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of
New Jersey
My Beloved in the Lord,
There is no doubt that over the past several months our Church, Parish Communities, devout faithful, Parish ministries, and nation have endured the serious consequences of the Coronavirus Pandemic. In addition to over 180,000 people dying from this virus, millions have been infected which has often led to serious medical issues and perhaps medical consequences of which we know neither the duration nor the type. Beyond this, numerous families have endured economic hardships as many businesses were forced to close and millions of people lost work.
Our Parish Communities have also endured much during these trying months as the devout faithful were initially not permitted to attend the Divine Services and, even now, there are limitations to participation due to local, state, CDC, and Metropolis regulations. Nevertheless, as our nation and Communities endure, we thank God for having provided many of us with our health as well as the ability to continue contending with the harshness of this virus. Although the end of this pandemic is not imminent, we can still rejoice in the many blessings God has given us. Giving thanks to our Lord is of the utmost importance since He, as the Author of Life, gives us the strength and fortitude to withstand all things.
Therefore, I encourage each and every one of you to come to Church with your family so that you may give thanks to God. Give thanks to Him for having preserved us. Give thanks to Him for protecting us. Give thanks to Him for giving us strength when we were weak and for aiding us when we were in need. “Give thanks to the Lord, for Heis good, for His mercy endures forever” (Ps. 118:1). I implore you to go to Church so that, as a devout community of Orthodox Christians, we may give thanks to God together and partake of the most pure and precious Body and Blood of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins and for eternal life. This is greatest way in which we can give thanks to God.
In addition to giving thanks to God through our participation in the Divine Services, let us redouble our efforts to support the ministries of the Church financially as the Church needs our support to continue its mission in spiritually nourishing the devout faithful and all people. During the course of this Pandemic, many Parish Communities have experienced serious financial setbacks which have affected ministries upon which countless people depend. Therefore, I implore you to give as generously as you can to your Parish Community so that our Parishes can continue their essential ministries which build up the Body of Christ, feed the hungry, shelter the destitute, aid the needy, and help the sick. With your love and dedication for Christ and His Church combined with your generosity, we may be able to continue these vital ministries for the glory of God.
My beloved in the Lord, we must help and assist one another as much as we can during these difficult times while remaining faithful that these trials and tribulations shall eventually pass. Let us always support and bolster one another so that, as a Community, we may confront the challenges that lay ahead. Moreover, let us always remember the words of St. James, the brother of our Lord, who says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing” (James 1:2-4). Praying that our Lord continues to protect you and grant to you and your families His abundant blessings as we begin this New Ecclesiastical Year, I remain

Prayer for a Sick Person:
Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, who have sent Your only-begotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ to heal every sickness and infirmity, visit and heal (me) Your servant from all physical and spiritual ailments through the grace of Your Christ. Grant (me) patience in this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us through Your word to pray for each other that we may be healed. I pray that You heal (me) as Your servant and grant (me) the gift of complete health. For You are the source of healing and to You I give glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen

The Lord said this parable, "There was a householder who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a wine press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to tenants, and went into another country. When the season of fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to get his fruit; and the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. Again he sent other servants, more than the first; and they did the same to them. Afterward he sent his son to them, saying 'They will respect my son.' But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' And they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him. When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?'"

Εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος τήν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ῎Αλλην παραβολὴν ἀκούσατε. ἄνθρωπός τις ἦν οἰκοδεσπότης, ὅστις ἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα καὶ φραγμὸν αὐτῷ περιέθηκε καὶ ὤρυξεν ἐν αὐτῷ ληνὸν καὶ ᾠκοδόμησε πύργον, καὶ ἐξέδοτο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν. ὅτε δὲ ἤγγισεν ὁ καιρὸς τῶν καρπῶν, ἀπέστειλε τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς λαβεῖν τοὺς καρποὺς αὐτοῦ. καὶ λαβόντες οἱ γεωργοὶ τοὺς δούλους αὐτοῦ ὃν μὲν ἔδειραν, ὃν δὲ ἀπέκτειναν, ὃν δὲ ἐλιθοβόλησαν. πάλιν ἀπέστειλεν ἄλλους δούλους πλείονας τῶν πρώτων, καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτοῖς ὡσαύτως. ὕστερον δὲ ἀπέστειλε πρὸς αὐτοὺς τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ λέγων· ἐντραπήσονται τὸν υἱόν μου. οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ἰδόντες τὸν υἱὸν εἶπον ἐν ἑαυτοῖς· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· δεῦτε ἀποκτείνωμεν αὐτὸν καὶ κατάσχωμεν τὴν κληρονομίαν αὐτοῦ. καὶ λαβόντες αὐτὸν ἐξέβαλον ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, καὶ ἀπέκτειναν. ὅταν οὖν ἔλθῃ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος, τί ποιήσει τοῖς γεωργοῖς ἐκείνοις; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· κακοὺς κακῶς ἀπολέσει αὐτούς, καὶ τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἐκδώσεται ἄλλοις γεωργοῖς, οἵτινες ἀποδώσουσιν αὐτῷ τοὺς καρποὺς ἐν τοῖς καιροῖς αὐτῶν. λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς· οὐδέποτε ἀνέγνωτε ἐν ταῖς γραφαῖς, λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας· παρὰ Κυρίου ἐγένετο αὕτη, καὶ ἔστι θαυμαστὴ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς ἡμῶν;

The Commemoration of the Miracle Wrought by Archangel Michael in Colossae (Chonae)
The feast today in honour of the Archangel Michael commemorates the great miracle he wrought when he delivered from destruction a church and holy spring named for him. The pagans, moved by malice, sought to destroy the aforesaid church and holy spring by turning the course of two rivers against them. But the Archangel appeared and, by means of the Cross and a great earthquake that shook the entire area, diverted the waters into an underground course. Henceforth, the name of that place changed from Colossae to Chonae, which means "funnels" in Greek.

The Nativity of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary
According to the ancient tradition of the Church, the Theotokos was born of barren and aged parents, Joachim and Anna, about the year 16 or 17 before the birth of Christ. Joachim was descended from the royal line of David, of the tribe of Judah. Anna was of the priestly tribe of Levi, a daughter of the priest Matthan and Mary, his wife.
