We hope that each one of you are renewing your relationship with the source of true consolation, love and hope during this Bright and Holy Season. It is Christ Himself and all that He has accomplished for us by His death and Holy Resurrection. It is the firm hope of every Christian. Christ has tramped down death by death—a great mystery, a great gift! We anticipate our eternal destiny as members of His Kingdom abiding in His Holy Paradise in the Light of His countenance forever! Glory to Your Holy Resurrection, O Lord!

SUNDAY SCHOOL will meet this morning. We’ll watch a short movie about how children who lived during the time of our Lord’s ministry on earth may have experienced the events of Holy Week and the subsequent Resurrection of Christ!

VIGIL CANDLES IN THE NARTHEX Large, contained, unlit, white vigil candles are available in the stand in the narthex. These candles are often lit in memory of departed loved ones or for on-going prayer concerns. Suggested donation is $10 per candle. Please leave your donation in the tray. Thank you.

HOLY WEEK AND THE PASCHAL CELEBRATION HERE at St. George were a special blessing this year. Thank God for all the talented and willing people the Lord has sent to worship here and offer their gifts individually and corporately in ministry. We thank our chanters and choir who labored faithfully under Lambros’ direction, we thank those who made special financial offerings for the needs of the season, and to Sprague’s nursery for spring plants & flowers. Special thanks to Cathy who made the (delicious) Paschal bread fund-raiser a reality again this year. We thank all those who decorated & cleaned the church in anticipation—Eleni, Marina, Cathy, Elena, Maria, Shane, Jessica, Hannah, Pat. And to everyone who cooked for the afterglow and those who tidied up afterwards. Thanks to Jack who makes the best coffee in Bangor—faithfully—on Holy Pascha in the wee hours of the morning and most every other Sunday. Monica made sure we had a rich, Romanian Paschal sweet on the table to enjoy together and colored eggs to distribute—thank you! Special thanks to Lee who makes sure to extinguish any stray flames and to make sure our little “ark” remains upright and afloat on the water. We recognize, too, our altar servers Basil, Dr. Dave, James & Mike whose service is an important one—and the help of our youngest acolyte, Teo. Most of all we thank Fr. Leo for his tireless labors and prayers for us all. We are a small community, but a blessed one, owing to the prayers of St. George and the great mercies of God. Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen!

HAND-EMBROIDERED WINDING SHEET Our church has been gifted an exquisite large white and gold hand-embroidered winding sheet for wrapping the Body of Christ at His removal from the Cross on Good Friday afternoon. This sacred gift came from Eugenia Kolkas’mother who lives in Greece. We thank her most sincerely for thinking of us--our church received yet another seasonal gift from a loving heart!

“CLIFFS OF FREEDOM” SCREENING IN BANGOR on May 16 had to be cancelled. An insufficient amount of tickets were pre-purchased to make the showing possible. The good news is that the Alamo Theatre is still trying to obtain the film and it may eventually show there. If you remain interested in seeing this film, please stay in touch with Pat C. as she will have the most up to date information. Thank you.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

VALET PARKING Some parishioners have difficulty walking distances and find it hard to park near enough to the church on Sunday mornings. If this applies to you, please do the following: park in the loading zone in front of the church, and come indoors with your car key and ask in the office for someone to park the car for you and you will be assisted. GREAT VESPERS St. George Church offers Great Vespers at 6PM on any evening before a Divine Liturgy will be served. Each Saturday evening at 6PM, Great Vespers is served in anticipation of Sunday morning’s Divine Liturgy. This will also be true of evenings preceding a major feast. Participation in these services is an opportunity for us to worship corporately and multiply the power of our prayers. If for any reason vespers will not be served, you will receive a message beforehand via the church list-server advising cancellation.

ROUTINE SERVICE TIMES AT ST. GEORGE Great Vespers 6PM (the evening before a Divine Liturgy); Orthros/Matins (morning prayers) 9AM; Divine Liturgy 10AM.

NAME DAYS If you would like to participate in a Divine Liturgy on your Name Day, please let Fr. Leo know to arrange this beforehand.

SPECIAL PRAYER SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED Fr. can meet you here at the church and offer particular prayers for you if you are going to be traveling or are preparing to have medical procedures done (hospitalization, etc.) He is available to make hospital visits and will routinely visit those in convalescent care. Thomas Sunday

Though the doors were shut at the dwelling where the disciples were gathered for fear of the Jews on the evening of the Sunday after the Passover, our Saviour wondrously entered and stood in their midst, and greeted them with His customary words, "Peace be unto you." Then He showed unto them His hands and feet and side; furthermore, in their presence, He took some fish and a honeycomb and ate before them, and thus assured them of His bodily Resurrection. But Thomas, who was not then present with the others, did not believe their testimony concerning Christ's Resurrection, but said in a decisive manner, "Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe." Wherefore after eight days, that is, on this day, when the disciples were again gathered together and Thomas was with them, the Lord Jesus came while the doors were shut, as He did formerly. Standing in their midst, He said, "Peace be unto you"; then He said to Thomas, "Bring hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not unbelieving, but believing."

And Thomas, beholding and examining carefully the hands and side of the Master, cried out with faith, "My Lord and my God." Thus he clearly proclaimed the two natures - human and divine - of the God-man (Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19-29).

This day is called Antipascha (meaning "in the stead of Pascha," not "in opposition to Pascha") because with this day, the first Sunday after Pascha, the Church consecrates every Sunday of the year to the commemoration of Pascha, that is, the Resurrection.

Irene the Great Martyr

Saint Irene was the daughter of a princelet called Licinius; named Penelope by her parents, through a divine revelation she was brought to faith in Christ and at Baptism was renamed Irene. In her zeal for piety she broke in pieces all the idols of her father, who commanded that she be trampled underfoot by horses. But while she remained unharmed, one of the horses rose up and cast down her father, killing him. By her prayer she raised him to life again, and he believed and was baptized. Afterwards, in many journeyings, Saint Irene suffered torments and punishments for her faith, but was preserved by the power of God, while working dread miracles and converting many thousands of souls. At last she came to Ephesus, where she fell asleep in peace, in the first half of the fourth century. Two days after her death, her gravestone was found lifted off, and her grave empty. At least two churches were dedicated to Saint Irene in Constantinople, and she is also the patroness of the Aegean island of Thera, which is commonly called Santorin (or Santorini), a corruption of "Saint Irene."

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."

Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

I rarely preach politics from the pulpit. I realize in our congregation we have Democrats and Republican; we have those who may be more conservative and others more liberal. Our country is so divided, and if we talk politics, our own church family will quickly become divided. That is, we will become divided if we forget that our ultimate leader is Jesus Christ, and His call is for us to live under the reign of His Kingdom.
