Working Together for the Church
Greetings in Christ Jesus our Lord.
By now, most everyone is at least aware that St. Demetrios is having what has been called initially a Leadership Retreat, and now is simply referred to as a St. Demetrios Planning Meeting. We changed the name so as not to confuse people. In the “business model” this might be called a retreat. In the “church model” it is not. So, to clarify, we want to gather as many of you together to put our heads together for the good of St. Demetrios. If you are a steward, if you are not a steward, if you attend every Sunday, if you attend occasionally, you are invited and encouraged to be there. Everybody’s input is welcome.
What do we hope to accomplish tomorrow morning?
We hope to get everyone working together.
We hope to build on the shoulders of others who have gone before.
We hope to grow in faith and practice.
We hope to create an environment that we all enjoy being a part of.
The adage says, “Rome was not built in a day.” We know this is true, and we don’t expect to “build Rome” but simply to work toward the goal of the best possible parish for all of us. Please come lend your thoughts and ideas.
Indeed, what we are saying insofar as we are all baptized members of the Orthodox Church is to do as St. Paul instructed we should all do:
"... equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12)
